A recent ruling from the 2nd Appellate State Court in Los Angeles has deemed it compulsory for all teachers of home schooled children in California to have state teaching credentials. It has been estimated that this affects the home schooling of approximately 166,000 children in California, currently home educated by parents who do not have credentialed status. The ruling caused such statewide outrage that the court has agreed to rehear the case, with oral arguments scheduled to be heard in June.

Forcing everyone that home schools their child to have credentialed status is not going to have any real beneficial impact on the education of the child.
