MiQ can help those who are home schooled

A recent ruling from the 2nd Appellate State Court in Los Angeles has deemed it compulsory for all teachers of home schooled children in California to have state teaching credentials. It has been estimated that this affects the home schooling of approximately 166,000 children in California, currently home educated by parents who do not have credentialed status. The ruling caused such statewide outrage that the court has agreed to rehear the case, with oral arguments scheduled to be heard in June.

Forcing everyone that home schools their child to have credentialed status is not going to have any real beneficial impact on the education of the child. If this ruling stands, all it effectively constitutes is an administrative hoop for someone to jump through, with no other guarantees that the home tutor is actually delivering a decent home education. What really needs to happen is a system of actively monitoring the home education of the child, to ensure that they are getting high quality education regardless of the credentialed status of the person home schooling them.
